WORS Video

Last winter, Don’s daughter Alexis suggested that I make a video for WORS. I sorted through so many good photos for the race reports this year that the idea sounded better and better. In the end, I started late and spent more time working on it than I’d like to admit. It was great to have the chance to do something for WORS and Don. And I discovered that Journey rocks.

Thanks to everyone who linked to or embedded it on their own site. Sharing the WORS fandom was the intended goal. And, on a personal note, many thanks to those who mentioned they liked it.

Sprint Prime - 2 minutes to mechanical failure

WORS 2008 Sheboygan #12/12 www.wors.org

Thanks Rusty for the picture!

Here I am getting my a** handed to me in the sprint by Pro racer (and winner of the Sheboygan race) Jenna Zander. I had a good gap when I hit the pavement, but no more gears, and - can’t spin. So, both spinning our biggest gear, me at 60 rpm?, her at probably 120 rpm… not surprisingly she zoomed by me at the line, and seemed to keep accelerating from that point. Myself, I was a bit tired. ^_^

Second into the single track, smoothly passed by Abby and Holly in short order. Feeling pretty good about sitting fourth wheel, but… Mechanical about a minute later in the singletrack: someone attempted to pass and despite my leaving room, that did not go so well. I was pushed into a tree onto my derailer by the lady, and she and her bike fell onto mine. Ladies piled up behind the crash. When she pulled her bike away, her handlebar was looped into my rear brake housing, which was yanked almost out. Got back onto the bike and - no rear brake. Thought about that while I tried to bridge back up to the leaders. Within a few minutes, the bike started to ghost shift and then the chain broke on a short power climb. No rear brake, no chain. Called it a day.

The competition was pretty good, and I’ll have until next year to wonder if I could have been in the top 5 for the $600+ payout? Walked back to the line and collected my $10 for second place in the sprint. woot woot.

…note to self. maybe work on spinning more.
