Turkey Post

I’m looking down the barrel of an epic carpool for Turkey Day, and am thus reminded that there were some pretty good bike race carpool moments of ‘08. Such as:

+ Floods managed to avoid the Subaru Cup, but destroyed almost every road to anywhere else in Wisconsin. On the return trip, the Trek van suddenly found the freeway ahead blocked with an unmoving wall of cars. A “WTF?” phone call to our early-departed associate, who had been sitting in that same traffic for an hour (sitting, in fact, right on top of a solemn promise to call us in case of that very eventuality), spawned a choice entry on a whole other “top 5″ list. Matt scouted the grassy median and drove the Trek van across it to make a U-turn. It sounded just like this:

+ The ride back from Rhinelander with Carlos and Aris was a bilingual techno fest. To give you an idea, here is Carlos training with the newest Techno-loving Guatemalan Polack. The video is entitled “Dancing some Trance with Papi”:

It’s OK to shake it with a baby.

+ Riding in Geo’s Jeep with four boys, all of them singing along to Tenacious D (*— Her Gently). They all hit that trailing high note at the end with such gusto that you couldn’t even hear the stereo, which led to a discussion of the merits of a cappella renditions. Someone should get a boys choir onto that.

Prying our enjoyment out of Fun’s cold, dead hands

This weekend, we went for a ride during the warmest part of the day. It might have been above freezing. On the way home, I was quiet for a few blocks, contemplating the many reasons I would prefer frostbite to having to stop and move the warmers on my toes to my fingers. Just then, an ambulance crossed our path and Matt said, “You know, they’re probably taking someone whose hands froze all the way off.”

The art and the airness

Matt and I were at the Milwaukee Art Museum on Friday night to take in the Air Guitar Championships. The two guys below were among the best. And the girl who did the backflip was pretty fly.

We also got to run around on some art:

The little brother and I

I got another great letter from my little brother this week. He’s back in the saddle as a messenger right now, and this is how his letters sometimes are…
